10th Century Bruree

Ollums strength & stamina descended down through generations of Munster’s Kings. The power sharing Eoghanacht and Ui Fidhgeinte clans trembled in 954 when Mahon, brother of Brian Boru seized the throne of Munster.

The kings of both clans created a cunning plan with Ivar, King of Limerick Danes to oust Mahon. They lured him to Bruree for a great feast at O Donovan’s Palace. O’ Donovan was King of the Ui Fidhgeinte. O’ Donovan was touring his kingdom with Mahon, when he delivered Mahon to Molloy. Molloy was King of the Eoghanacht. It was here that Mahon met his untimely death. Hearing of his brother’s death Brian Boru vowed revenge.

Molloy, O’ Donovan & Ivar were no match for Boru. In the battle at Bruree, O’ Donovan’s fort was obliterated. Boru built a new one which served as his command centre for the area. Brian Boru continued his powerful reign and gained control of most of Ireland.
